"Magical Everyday": Group Exhibition
Magical Everyday considers how we make sense of the world at a time when images circulate rapidly, digital media permeate everyday life, and social values remain in constant flux.
The "magical" in this exhibition does not suggest an escape into fantasy, but rather the subtle shifts taking place within reality itself. Memory is reorganized, images reshape how we see, and identities, relationships, and systems of value once assumed to be stable begin to lose their certainty. The familiar remains present, yet can no longer be understood in quite the same way.
In this context, the everyday is no longer a stable backdrop to life, but a space where personal experience, collective memory, mediated images, and social narratives intersect. As screens increasingly shape our encounters with events, places, and others, lived experience begins to overlap with images in circulation, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, memory and representation. Images do not simply record reality; they influence how it is perceived and understood.
Bringing together different artistic perspectives on history, memory, images, and contemporary life, the exhibition presents works across painting, sculpture, and installation. Drawing from everyday scenes, personal experiences, historical fragments, and existing imagery, the artists transform and reassemble their source materials. Rather than recovering a singular truth, the works reveal how reality is continually constructed, narrated, and interpreted through shifting positions and modes of seeing.
By reinterpreting familiar forms and elements of daily life, the artists unsettle what might otherwise appear self-evident. Rather than centring on objects themselves, these transformations register individual perceptions of contemporary society and reveal how meaning is shaped by time, media, and social conditions.
Within this framework, the "reconstruction of objecthood" extends beyond changes in material form. It refers more broadly to how things are seen anew and acquire different meanings as their contexts shift. As familiar ways of understanding and assigning value become less stable, new relationships emerge between the familiar and the unfamiliar, past and present, reality and imagination.
Magical Everyday: Fissures of Reality and the Reconstruction of Objecthood does not seek spectacle removed from everyday life. Instead, it turns our attention back towards reality itself. The magical emerges through changes that are easily overlooked: when the world we take for granted gradually becomes unfamiliar, the act of looking once again becomes a way of understanding reality and opening new possibilities for imagining contemporary life.
