Yan Jheng-Hao was born in 1997 in Tainan, Taiwan, and currently lives and works in Taipei. He received his BFA from National Taiwan University of Arts in 2020 and his MFA from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2024. Centered on painting, his practice interweaves memory and emotion to investigate the possibilities of cultural identity. Yan's work examines the interplay between color and desire, body and form, often portraying the complex emotions of youth and the subconscious mechanisms underlying collective behavior and individual psychology. By traversing between everyday life and historical imagery, he constructs suggestive scenarios that invite viewers into an open and fluid inner landscape. His paintings highlight the shifting faces of desire within human interaction, while layering images to continually explore and shape self-identity.
His recognitions and honors include Selection for the CTBC Contemporary Painting Prize (2025), Gold Medal in Oil Painting at the National Art Exhibition, ROC (2024), Winner of the Long Yen Art Award (2023), and Selection for the New Taipei City Art Exhibition in Oil Painting (2022). He has held several solo exhibitions, including The Night Melts Across The Cheeks (2026) at YIRI ARTS in Taipei, Under The Faith Stars (2025) at Ruomu Gallery in Taipei, Glimmer In the Darkness (2023) at Σ XPace in Taipei, and The Ninth Floor (2023) at Madeleine Gallery in Taipei.
