邱君婷 Chiu Chun-Ting Taiwan, b. 1987

Chiu Chun-Ting was born in 1987 in Taiwan and holds an MFA in Art Creation from National Hsinchu University of Education. Chiu likens her artistic practice to daydreaming—a junction that allows us to momentarily step away from reality. Positioning herself as a sleepwalker, she records these fleeting fragments with her brush and presents them before the viewer.

Within her works, the artist releases the gaps that emerge from areas of negative space, transforming them into elements for constructing scenes. This shift allows the narrative structure to move toward a theatrical mode of relation, rendering the story more spatial and three-dimensional. At the same time, it downplays the once readily identifiable textual protagonist (or subject), instead offering richer contexts and details that deepen the work’s narrative layers.

Through this approach, the “camera movement” of the viewer’s gaze transitions from the close-up—once a shortcut for reading—to the long take, altering the relative positioning of the narrative’s composition. While maintaining the delicate atmosphere characteristic of her work, Chiu invites viewers to return with her to the sleepwalker’s childhood, to stand once again on the same elevated platform and look back toward memory.
