Keng Chieh-Sheng: Eccentric Landscape: Solo Exhibition
Current event
Overview
Special Exhibition Gallery, 2F, Side Wing, Chiayi Art Museum
Taiwanese artist Keng Chieh-Sheng's solo exhibition, Eccentric Landscape, is currently on view at the Chiayi Art Museum from August 11 to October 11, 2026.
Taking tree rings as records of time beyond the scale of human experience, the exhibition explores how natural environments, human activity, and historical change collectively shape the growth of plants. The word "eccentric" refers both to trees' adaptive, off-center growth and to the particular outcomes produced by historical conditions and human choices.
Working primarily with wood, Keng dismantles and reconfigures timber and manufactured wooden objects from different periods and in varying states. These materials are transformed into sculptural structures that appear to grow like clustered stems, accumulating volume and height. Through processes of material transition and transformation, the works intertwine multiple temporal trajectories and reflect on the complex landscape formed through the continuous negotiation between humanity and nature.
