“The prophecy of a madman: The coming of the Giant, manifest both as infernal hellfire and celestial paradise. For some shall deem it a gateway to damnation, while others shall proclaim it a glimpse of divine bliss. Abandon your futile quest, for the Earth itself is the forgotten paradise we all have forsaken. For the abyss we dwell in is our own creation. For the Giant shall unveil the dichotomy of our destiny, and naught shall remain unchanged.”
Living in the age of information where we are overwhelmed with many kinds of narratives, each of us have a preconceived world view that perhaps, is constructed on our own, or one that is prefabricated for us. Our world view is constantly shaped by different forms of narratives which may alter or reinforce the perception of our world view.
Ong Hong Chuan explored mythical and historical narratives in relation to the construction of world view. Adopting the notion that all worldviews are flawed, attempted to investigate the insights behind these flawed narratives. From the analysis of these fragments of narratives, I hope to uncover a different set of world views bearing another perspective to view these narratives. Through this process, artist created an alternate reality of “What If ?”
