Laba:Love War

22 September - 15 October 2022 YIRI ARTS

When there is a lack of love, we are wired to equate love with longing. Longing becomes hope, and hope turns into faith.

The artist has created and presented the gods of pink peach blossoms in his imagination for audiences to make requests to and worship. Working in a humorous illustrative style, his work represents a visual desire full of symbolic creatures and legendary beasts that convey the essential needs of love and sex among human beings. Taking the image of the god as a starting point, he transforms the mythic symbols into novel narratives that are compellingly contemporary with his idiosyncratic and charming vocabulary.

The worldview reflected in this series of works has never aimed to elevate ot to the height of populism or the perspective of the gods. Instead, they are depictions of one's inner beliefs. Unfounded lies will not realise the wish, but only a more cohesive and collective belief can become a powerful reality which the artist achieves.
