Maru Quiñonero was born in Madrid, Spain in 1979. She obtained a Master's degree in Fashion and Beauty Communication: VOGUE at the Carlos III University in Madrid. In Maru Quiñonero's practice, a dialogue is established between the elements of color, form, emptiness, pastels, and acrylics. Her repetitive, organic shapes of color create an abstract and breathing composition, a zone surrounded by silence, stagnation, and void. For Maru Quiñonero, painting is like an exercise in silent introspection. At the same time, she aims to create a dialogue between the elements of emptiness, which is carried out continuously in a concentrated and slow manner, to explore the complexities implied between these simple subjects in one painting after another.
In 2020, she has collaborated with the clothing brand COS and showcased her works at their Kings Cross London store. Her recent solo shows include Con Ruido, No Veo., YIRI ARTS, Taipei (2022), The Need, Voltz Clarke Gallery, New York (2022), BIEN, Alzueta Gallery, Madrid (2021), Verso y Prosa, Alzueta Gallery, Barcelona (2021), and What If?, Voltz Clarke Gallery, New York (2020).
