This island nation was once covered with thick forest, unspoiled by human hands; three hundred years of successive cultures have colonized and occupied the beautiful land, “Formosa”.Through the works of two diametrically different artists, this exhibition seeks to discuss and explore life on our island. 62-year old self-taught artist Wu Min-hsing has always struggled creatively with himself. The gentle plants and flowers that emerge from his brush coexist much like plants synergize with their environment; their beauty derived from the essence of life itself.
On the other hand, Huang Po-chih’s “500 Lemon Trees” is an art project that links together an abandoned plot of land, a group of aging farmers, and the masses waiting to be awakened. Seeds become wine, and those involved in the process, from farming, brewing, retail, are all connected and remembered. Two artists, two styles - one summoning the self, the other connected to the external – through plant life, interpreting the stunning vitality of the island.
